Obituary
Irene Ruth Jennings, age 81, a resident of West Chicago and formerly of Albuquerque, NM, died Sunday, March 13 at the Du Page Convalescent Center in Wheaton. She was born on April 9, 1923 in Waukon, Iowa to Karl and Ella Ernst.
Following her graduation from nursing school, she became a second lieutenant and served as a combat nurse in India at the end of W.W.II. She then made her home in Lombard for 30 years, where she worked Elmhurst Memorial Hospital and Immaculate Conception High School. In 1980 she retired and moved to Albuquerque with her husband John. Recently she returned to the Wheaton area and became a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Wheaton, where she was active with the JOY Group.
She is survived by three children, Patrick (Carol) Jennings of Winfield, Mary (Paul) Economides of Albuquerque and Judith (Randy) Nelson of Phoenix, and nine grandchildren.
Irene was preceded in death by her husband in 1980 and her son Michael.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, March 15 at 11:00 A.M. at St. John Lutheran Church, Main and Seminary St. in Wheaton.
Memorials may be directed to the JOY Group at St. John Lutheran Church or the American Lung Association.
