Obituary

A memorial service for Irene Early, 92, of Wheaton, IL for 29 years, will be held at 11 am Tues, Oct 6, at College Church in Wheaton, corner of Washington and Seminary St. Interment will be at Wheaton Cemetery following the service.

Visitation will be from 4-8pm Monday, Oct 5 at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main, Wheaton.

Born Sept 1, 1917, in Pollock, S.D. to William Leroy and Nina Irene Wilson, the second of four children, she died Friday, Oct 2, at home surrounded by loving family.

Her family lived in S.D., Missouri, and northern Minnesota, settling in Savannah, MO, where she graduated from H.S. From age 17, she supported her mother and brother for several years, and moved to S. Calif. to marry. After two children were born, she was forced to find work and raise her two infant children alone.

Entering the work force during WWII, she began in aircraft and related engineering, learning on the job with her skills in math and art. As she progressed over the years, she worked on such projects as the X-15, the B-70, the Apollo (man on the moon) Project, and upon retirement was working as a design engineer for the Space Shuttle.

Upon being lauded for her accomplishments, Irene said, "Anything I have been able to do, is because the Lord enabled me." She was a prayer warrior, praying daily for missionaries, friends, and family. She was a member of Village Green Baptist Church, Wheaton Bible Church (The Peoples Class), and attended College Church.

Irene had four granddaughters by her son Fred - Barbara, Marilyn, Hollie, and Michelle. And she had three grandsons by her daughter Vivien - Jonathan, Daniel, and Benjamin.

She is survived by her daughter Vivien (Bill) Pehrson of Wheaton; 7 grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Irene was overjoyed when the two newest great grandchildren, twins born Sept 15, were brought to her bedside and she was able to see them and hold them, only days before her Homegoing.

She was preceded in death by her son, Fred, who was killed in the line of duty as an L.A. policeman; sister Hazel Vivian; brother, John; and sister Orpha.
