Howard Wesley White, age 91, a resident of Windsor Park Manor, Carol Stream, Illinois died at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield. He was born in Poughkeepsie, New York to Harry G. and Bertha White on January 10, 1919. He was educated in the Poughkeepsie public school and graduated from Wheaton College (Illinois) in 1941 with a B.A. in business and finance. Jobs were scarce back then before IBM came to town. He had made contact with the R. G. LeTourneau Company in Peoria, Illinois before graduation and shortly thereafter began working in the Peoria, Illinois plant.
He was a shy, quiet Christian young man who served his Lord by singing in the church choir. There he met his wife and they were married in November 1942. Five weeks after being marrieed he was transferred to the LeTourneau plant in Vicksburg, Mississippi. Other employment was at the Automatic Electric Company - then in Chicago. In July 1946 he began a long association with his Alma Mater where he worked for 41 years as Controller of Wheaton College.
For 60 years he was an active member of Wheaton Bible Church serving as treasurer for twenty years. He was a member of the Sanctuary Choir for better than 30 years and a member of the retirees group at church known as "Trimmers" who kept the church grounds in park like condition during the growing season. His hobby was stamp collecting. While at Windsor Park he and his wife were involved in the music ministry as well as keeping the flowerbeds at Windsor Park in show-case condition.
For many years, post retirement, he gave his time to be treasurer of the "Timothy Project" which helps local pastors and seminary teachers in Eastern European countries to study God's word. The project was begun by some of the Wheaton College Athletic coaches and is now administered by a board. All the reports, etc. were done without help from a computer.
He is survived by his wife, Gabrielle, sons Timothy Alan (Anne) White of St. Charles, Illinois; G. Wesley White M.D. of Wheaton and daughter Dawn ("Pete") Herr of Wheaton, grandsons Kyle and Brendan Herr, numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, an older brother Donald White of Van Wert, Ohio, a sister Marjorie W. Bill of Culpeper, Virginia and his younger brother Roger H. (Ann Dewar) of Shell Point Village, Ft. Myers, Florida.
A memorial service will be held at Windsor Park Manor, 124 Windsor Park Drive, Carol Stream, Illinois, 60188, on Sunday, October 10th, at 2:00 p.m. Interment is private.
