Obituary

Rev. Howard Charles Stein was born on November 15, 1920, to Theodore and Louella (Hoewischer) Stein in Shelby County, Ohio. Howard graduated from the Fort Wayne Bible College, the University of Indianapolis, and did graduate study at Wayne State University in Detroit. He married Gail Malsbary of Muncie, IN, in June, 1943.

Howard was ordained by the Christian and Missionary Alliance in September, 1943. He was a church planter in Saginaw, Michigan for 3 years, during which time he also contributed to the start of the Vassar, Michigan, Alliance Church. He served the Detroit, Michigan, Grace Alliance Church for nine years, and the St. Louis, Missouri, Alliance Church for seven years. After teaching at Wheaton Academy, Wheaton, IL, for 5 years, Howard was called to be the pastor of Fox Valley Bible Church in St. Charles, IL, where he served for 14 years.

Howard remained active in retirement. He served on various committees of the Alliance church, held 5 interim pastorates, and began a Cars for Missionaries program. He also served for 20 years as a supervisor in the Billy Graham telephone ministry and for 20 years as the leader of a weekly prayer service at the Graham Center at Wheaton College.

Howard is survived by his beloved wife of 69 years, Gail, and three children: Howard Philip of Carol Stream, Dwight Douglas (Sue) of Lombard, and Jean Elaine Giles (Greg) of Xinzheng, China; six grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. and continue until the funeral service at 11:00 a.m., on Tuesday, April 16, at Hultgren Funeral Home 304 N. Main St., Wheaton, IL 60187. Burial will follow at Wheaton Cemetery. There will also be a memorial service at Windsor Park Manor 124 Windsor Park Dr., Carol Stream, IL 60188 on Tuesday the 16th at 6:30 p.m.
