Herbert "Bill" Thompson, age 87, a longtime resident of Wheaton, died at home on Sunday, October 1. He was born on June 13, 1919 in Chicago to Herbert and Marie Thompson.
Bill served in the First Division of the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII and was wounded at the Battle of Peleliu and earned the Silver Star. He was a member of the VFW Post 2164. He graduated from the University of Illinois and was a member of Delta Phi Fraternity. In 1980 he retired from Marsh and McLennan Insurance Brokers. He was an avid gardener.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Nancy, two children, William Arthur (Elizabeth) Thompson of Buffalo Grove, IL and Elizabeth (Jocelyn) Lepage of DeKalb, IL, three grandchildren, Emily Thompson and Margo and Jeanna Lepage, two siblings, Jack Thompson of AZ, and Edith Sher of CA and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, October 14, from 4:30 until 7:00 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St. in Wheaton. A private interment will be held at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Illinois.
