Obituary

Dr. Herbert F. Lamp, age 87, a resident of Windsor Park Manor in Carol Stream and formerly a longtime resident of Elmhurst, died Tuesday, November 21, at the Johnson Medical Center at Windsor Park. He was born on August 6, 1919 in Davenport, Iowa to Herbert and Laura Lamp.

During WWII he served for over four years in the U.S. Army and USAAF. He received his Ph.D. in Plant Ecology from University of Chicago in 1951. He taught Botany for 40 years at various institutions of higher education, ending his career at Northeastern Illinois University, where he also served as Chairman of the Department of Biology for almost two decades. He specialized in prairie and dune ecology.

He is survived by six children; Barbara Lamp of Louisville, Colorado, Marjorie (Stephen) Mead of Wheaton, Herbert Jr. (Deborah) of Kandern Germany, Laurie (Steven) Hodgson of Vernon Hills, Jonathan Lamp of Yorkville, and Kathryn (Jeffrey) Bumgarner of Fort Worth, Texas, and seven grandchildren, Ryan, Josiah (Erin), Mari, Hannah, Jack, Alex, and Carl.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Elaine Drews Lamp and his parents.

Visitation will be held on Friday, November 24, from 2 until 7 p.m. at the Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St. in Wheaton. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 25, at 1:30 p.m. at the Chapel at Windsor Park Manor, North Ave, just west of Gary Ave. in Carol Stream.

Interment will be held privately at Chapel Hill Gardens West.
