Herbert John Johnson, age 90, a lifelong resident of Wheaton, died Sunday, February 4, at the Central Du Page Hospital in Winfield. He was born on August 25, 1916 in Chicago to John and Ada Johnson.
Herb played football for the Wheaton High School. He was a veteran of the US Army serving during W.W.II in the Pacific. Though out his life he owned and operated several local business including, the Red Cab Company, Willow Snack Bar, Standard Oil at Wheaton and Front St., DuPage Produce and the VFW Fish Fry. He was a lifetime member of the Wheaton VFW Post 2164.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Elenor Johnson, three children, Herbert (Patricia) Johnson Jr. of Wheaton, Donald (Camille) Johnson of Lisle and Trudy (Richard) Smith of West Chicago, six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and four brothers, Rey, Bob, Gordon and Chuck Johnson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Harriet Johnson and one brother, Paul Johnson.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 7, from 3 to 8 P.M. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., in Wheaton, where a service will be held on Thursday, February 8 at 11:00 A.M. Interment will follow at Wheaton Cemetery.
