Henry Donald Matson Sr., age 84, a longtime resident of Bensenville, IL, went to be home with his Lord on Tuesday, October 28, 2014, at Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village, Illinois. He was born May 31, 1930 in Chicago to Henry and Adele Matson.

He grew up in the Portage Park neighborhood of Chicago and graduated from Schurz High School. He graduated from Wright Junior College and then attended the University of Illinois in Chicago. He joined the U. S. Navy and was stationed as a Corpsman at Glenview Naval Air Station. He met Lois Hagen at Midwest Bible Church and they were married there on August 7, 1954. Henry worked for 12 years in pharmaceutical sales as a hospital specialist for Merck, Sharp and Dohme. He went on to work as an insurance broker and financial planner until retiring on his 84th birthday. He was known throughout his career as a man of high Christian ethical values and the utmost integrity.

His Christian faith was central to his life and he donated his time and professional services to many Christian organizations, including Midwest Christian Academy, Midwest Bible Church, Phantom Ranch Bible Camp, Silver Birch Ranch and others. Over the years, he was an active member of Midwest Bible Church, Mt. Prospect Bible Church, Elk Grove Baptist Church and recently attended Medinah Baptist Church. Henry was always anxious to share his faith in Christ with all he met.

Spending time with his family was his greatest joy and he supported his wife in her career as a nurse and later as a chaplain. He was a compassionate people-person who gave generously beyond his means. Despite 35 years of incredible chronic pain, he always had a smile and a story to share and now is rejoicing in his new heavenly body.

He is survived by his wife, Lois Matson, four children, Patti (Dr. Tim) Bowman of Bensenville, Henry "Donald" (Cheryl) Matson Jr. of Manchester, MI, Dr. Jonathan (Nadia) Matson of Rockford, and Carrie (Bill) Meitzler of Elk Grove Village, 17 grandchildren, Kristine, Bethany (Adam), Rachel (Austin), Hannah, John, Scott, Thomas, Erik, Lauren, Jacob, Carren, Sofia, Jonathan, Esther, William, Faith, and Grace, and two great-grandsons, Aiden and Dane. He is also survived by his siblings, Marilyn Johnson, Doris (Art) Bauer, Howard (Nancy) Matson and Grace Peterson, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by an infant son, Daniel Mark, his parents, and sister, Virginia Trebilco.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 1, at 12:00 noon at Medinah Baptist Church, 800 Foster Ave., Medinah, IL 60157, where friends may visit with the family from 10:00 until 12:00. Interment will follow at Mt. Emblem Cemetery in Elmhurst.
