Helge Barrie, age 91, a resident of Romeoville, IL, died on March 2, 2024.  She was born on November 3, 1932, in Freiburg in Breisgau, Germany.

During WWII, her family lived in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, and survived many bombings.  She met Harry Barrie who was an American stationed in Germany and they were married.  They lived in Seville Spain where they had a son, then, while living in Frankfurt, Germany, they had a daughter.  Then, while living in Madrid, Spain, they had another son.

In 1969, they moved to Kankakee and then to Romeoville, where they lived in the same home since 1971.

She was a generous person and enjoyed reading devotionals.  She loved gardening, animals, and feeding the birds, spending time sewing and baking. She cared for orchid plants and found joy in helping them to bloom again. She kept in touch with close friends in Germany throughout her life, and had a friend who called her every week for many years. She loved having her grandchildren over.  She appreciated having a prayer before meals.

She is survived by her sons, Richard (Corrie) Barrie of Wheaton, and Harold Barrie of Romeoville, and two grandsons, Josiah and Evan. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry, her daughter, Christine, and her younger sister.

A memorial service will be held at College Church on Sunday, March 10, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. in the Commons.  Private interment will be held at Wheaton Cemetery in Wheaton, Illinois.
