Helen Shields, age 95, of Wheaton (formally Chicago and Santa Monica, California), went to be with the Lord on Friday October 19, 2012 at Elmhurst Extended Care Center. Helen was born on December 24, 1916, in Chicago, the daughter of Stanislaw and Gertrude Pakula. Helen had 4 siblings that included Stanley, Chester, Matthew, and her beloved sister Lottie.

Helen grew up in St. Camillus parish on the city's southwest side. She married Edward Shields on October 19, 1957, and moved to Santa Monica, California to work at Paper Mate as an inspector.

She remained on the west coast after her husband passed, and moved back to the Chicago area after her sister's husband passed. The two sisters were inseparable.

She is survived by her nephews Jeff (Karen) Galas, Norman (Patty) Galas, Ronald (Anna) Galas, grandnieces Nicolene, Stephanie, Amanda, Cathy, and grandnephew Steven.

She is preceded in death by her husband Edward, her sister Lottie Galas, brothers Stanley, Chester, and Matthew.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday October 23, 2012 at 9:15 a.m. until the funeral service at 10:15 a.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main Street in Wheaton, IL. 11:00 a.m. Mass will be celebrated at St. Daniel the Prophet, 101 West Loop in Wheaton, IL. She will be laid to rest at Resurrection Cemetery in Justice, IL.
