Obituary

Helen M. Roe, age 72, passed away peacefully after a long illness on June 19, 2019.

After graduating from St. Mary of the Woods College in Indiana, Helen went on to do things that, at the time, not many women dared to do. She enrolled and graduated from DePaul University Law School, where, as she laughed, she was one of only two women in her class. From Law School Helen joined the Law Department of United Airlines as in-house counsel. After eight years at United, Helen entered the private practice of law. While engaged in the private practice, Helen thought that she might also be interested in doing some part time teaching. She sent her resume to the University of Illinois at Chicago, where as luck would have it, there was an opening to be filled in Business Law. After several years, her part time position became a full-time appointment as Lecturer in the College of Business. Also during this time, she met George. The two were married December 19, 1992 at Holy Name Cathedral in Chicago, after which they enjoyed what George has described as a storybook marriage.

She is survived by her husband and best friend George Roe, and brothers, Michael, William (Mary Beth) and Jack Higgins (Missy) as well as sisters Mary Celeste Higgins and Patricia Ann Crowley (John).
