Obituary

Helen (Honey) Elizabeth Ramirez, née McCartney, widow of Eduardo Salvador Ramirez, passed away on April 1, 2025, in Wheaton, Illinois. She was born on April 30, 1926, in St. Louis, Missouri, and spent most of her youth in Waterville, Ohio, with her parents, Adelia Walbolt and Edgar Freeman McCartney.

She began playing piano, pipe organ, and chimes at various churches at the age of 12 and continued until the age of 75. Her extensive career included serving as the executive assistant to John Hanigan, CEO and Chairman of the Board of Brunswick Corporation, and as president of Executive Secretaries, Inc.

After Hanigan's retirement, she worked as a marketing executive at Sherwood Medical until her own retirement. She later returned to serve as Hanigan's office manager in Florida, continuing in that role until one year after his passing.

She is survived by her three children: Susan Elizabeth Ramirez (Arturo), Edward Freeman Ramirez (Rosalia), and Ann Virginia Ramirez-Peduzzi (Philip); five grandchildren: Eduardo Ramirez Yano (Adelma), Suzanne Ramirez Yano, Nena Peduzzi, Stella Peduzzi, and Vincenzo Peduzzi; and six great-grandchildren: Johnny, Owen, Leo, Scarlet, Eduardo IV, and Maximiliano.

She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Hannah Peduzzi, as well as her biological mother, Lela Grace Williams Garraway; her father; and her paternal grandparents, Robert William Knight and Olivia Edmondson Knight, all of Mississippi.

Her love, patience, wisdom, generosity, and strong work ethic are already deeply missed.

A memorial service will be held at Tequesta Presbyterian Church in Florida in April 2026, near what would have been her hundredth birthday. Her ashes will be placed in the church's Memorial Garden.
