Dr. Helen Craig Maibenco, age 88, a resident of Wheaton, died Friday, June 10, at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield. Born in Aberdeenshire, Scotland on June 9, 1917, she came to the United States in 1917. Dr. Maibenco received her BS from Wheaton College in 1948 and went on to earn the MS at DePaul University in 1950 and a PhD from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 1956.
She taught anatomy at the University of Illinois, Chicago from 1956-1973 and at Rush University from 1973-1986. She contributed articles to professional journals and was a member of the AAAS, Endocrine Society, American Association of Anatomists, and Sigma Xi. She was a member of Immanuel Presbyterian Church, Warrenville IL where she is remembered for her faithful participation in the ministries of the church.
Helen is survived by two sons, Dr. Douglas Craig (Patricia) Maibenco and Dr. Thomas Allen Maibenco; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Nicholas Paul Maibenco.
A Memorial Service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 16 at Immanuel Presbyterian Church, 29W260 Batavia Road, Warrenville, IL.
