Helen Irene Ernst, age 90, a resident of Windsor Park Manor in Carol Stream, and formerly a resident of Elmhurst, died Friday, January 5, at the Johnson Medical Center at Windsor Park. She was born on May 18, 1916 in Chicago to Martin and Sophie Smalley.
Much of her life was devoted for caring for her parents, brothers and her husband. She is survived by two sons, Thomas (Linda) Ernst of Arlington Heights and Gary Ernst of Naperville, four grandchildren, Laura (Jeff) Kremer, Carolyn (Doug) Smith, Mary (Brian) Kemp and Timothy (Anne) Ernst, and one great-grandson, Erik Kremer. She is also survived by one sister, Elsie Hoppe of Glendale, California.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 56, Albert, her parents, two brothers, Fred and George Smalley, and her daughter-in-law Audrey Ernst.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 9 from 3 to 9 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St. in Wheaton. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, January 10 at 2:00 p.m. at Windsor Park Manor, Windsor Park Dr. at North Ave., (just west of Gary Ave.) in Carol Stream.
Interment will will be held privately at Elmwood Cemetery in River Grove.
