Obituary

Helen Dunkeld, age 90, of Wheaton, died Thursday, March 29 at the Central Du Page Hospital in Winfield. She was born on September 14, 1916 in Boston, MA to A.B. and Ella Hughes.

On December 31, 1938 she married F. Orval Dunkeld. Together they served as pioneer missionaries in Zimbabwe from 1939 until 1982 with The Evangelical Alliance Mission (TEAM). She never let Zimbabwe slip out of her heart and prayers. She volunteered with Child Evangelism Fellowship, led a Bible Study and belonged to the Glen Ellyn garden club. In 2006 she published a book about she and Orval's lives as missionaries titled "Zambezi Trails". Helen reached out to everyone around her up until the last day of her life, graciously mentoring countless others with God's love.

She is survived by her children, Fred (Shirley) Dunkeld of MI, Lois (Wes) Bishop of Glen Ellyn and Ron (Michelle) Dunkeld of Wheaton, others embraced as children included Muriel (Duane) Elmer of Wheaton and Patricia (Dennis) Christensen of Naperville, 13 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband, two sons, Leonard, Dick and her parents.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 1 from 2 until 7 p.m. at Glen Ellyn Bible Church, 501 Hillside in Glen Ellyn. A graveside service will be held at Forest Hill Cemetery in Glen Ellyn Monday April 2 at 11am.

A Memorial Service will take place on Monday, April 16, at 10:30 am at the church.
