Obituary

Harold E. Youngberg, age 95, a resident of Wheaton, IL, went to be with the Lord July 30, 2018 at DuPage Care Center in Wheaton, Illinois. He was born July 5, 1923 in Gothenburg, Nebraska.

Harold graduated from Northern Baptist Theological Seminary in Chicago, IL. Harold also attended Wheaton College in Wheaton, IL and received his masters from Sacramento State in California. During his college years he was part of the Challenger Club ministry, teaching VBS in the Dakotas and surrounding area. Working his way through college, Harold was a Bell Boy on the SS South America, a cruise ship on the Great Lakes, as well as a Fuller Brush salesman. After graduating Harold was pastoring at the Evangelical Free Church in Libertyville, Illinois when he met Vivian Melgren. Harold and Vivian were married October 15, 1955 at the Stotler Covenant Church in Osage City, Kansas. Their Church work brought them to California where they lead youth studies and Harold directed the choir at Fair Oaks Methodist Church. Early in 1962 they went to Panama where he taught at the Methodist Pan American School. He taught English, science, speech and music where he developed a youth choir. In 1967, settling in Crete, IL, Harold started his career as a guidance counselor at Glenbard East High School in Lombard, eventually moving to Wheaton the winter of 1973-74. Music was a big part of his life and in his "retirement" Harold conducted a "learning to sing" choir for Triton College Senior Studies eventually retiring in 2007. Harold enjoyed traveling that took them through much of the United States as well as a part of Europe for their 50th wedding anniversary. In the most recent past, Harold served as minister of music as choir director and song leader at the Forest Park Baptist Church.

Harold is survived by his wife Vivian of 63 years, three children and their spouses; Mark and Janice Youngberg, Cathy and Al Patenaude, Tim and Bobbi Youngberg. Grandchildren; Lexi, Zachary and Jacob Youngberg, Jessica Patenaude, Summer and Skylar Youngberg.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents Elim and Tillie (Bjorklund) Youngberg, his sisters Evelyn, Mildred, Olga (Robin), Violet and Pearl.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday August 12, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Paul Evangelical Church, 118 First Street, Bloomingdale IL. Friends may visit with the family from noon until 1:00 p.m., luncheon will be served after the memorial service.
