Obituary

Harold Edward "Bingo" Besch, 87, of Batavia, formerly of Winfield, passed away February 5, 2015 at Michealsen Health Center, Batavia.

He was born in Aurora on August 24, 1927, the son of John J. & Anna (Klein) Besch. He is survived by his wife Alice (Revak) of Batavia, a son Harold of Winfield, daughters Patricia (Tom) Huff of Taylor Ridge, IL and Nancy (Bob) Borsodi of Winfield, granddaughters Rachel (Chris) Ciszek of Maple Park, IL and Kristin (Scott) Mann of Sycamore, IL, a great-granddaughter Makenzie Mann of Sycamore, IL, and a sister Frances Strawn of St. Charles, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother John N., and sisters Marion and Anna.

Harold Besch and Alice Revak were married on May 20, 1950 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Winfield. Known to all his family and friends as "Bingo", he resided in Winfield for the first 76 years of his life, having worked for 40 years at Winfield Fuel and Material Co. before his retirement in 1985. He served for 22 years as a volunteer fireman for the Winfield Volunteer Fire Company / Winfield Fire Protection District. Bingo proudly served his country in post WWII Germany as an ambulance driver and officer's chauffeur, having witnessed portions of the Nuremburg trials.

His interests included fishing, gardening, and woodworking, as well as an avid interest in music of years past. He would often be heard crooning many popular tunes that he and Alice remembered from memorable times over the years as well as many a patriotic song.

A mass will be held on Monday, February 9, at 11:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church, 0S233 Church St., Winfield. Friends may visit with the family at church from 10 until 11 a.m. A graveside service will follow the mass at St. John Cemetery in Winfield.
