Harold L. Day, age 93, a resident of Wheaton and formerly of Chicago, died Saturday, September 30, at the Du Page Convalescent Center after a brief illness. He was born on March 16, 1913 in Magnolia, Illinois.
Mr. Day worked for the American College of Surgeons for over 30 years. He enjoyed music and as a young man played in the Salvation Army Band. He was a member of the Chicago Gospel Tabernacle for many years and is a member of Evangel Baptist Church. Previously he was involved with the Wheaton Park District Senior activities such as the Pedal Pushers and cross-country skiing. He enjoyed working with wood and made birdhouses for many friends. Together with his wife they delivered Meals on Wheels.
He is survived by three children, Roger (Terry Jean) Day, Thomas (Janet) Day, and Juanita (Harry) Kairys; 9 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothea J. Day in 1999, one brother and three sisters.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 3, from 4:00 until the time of a funeral service at 7:00 p.m. at Evangel Baptist Church, 1900 Manchester Road, Wheaton, IL 60187. Interment will be at Granville Cemetery, Granville, IL.
