Hal Witthoeft, age 67, a resident of Warrenville, IL, passed away on Monday, March 16, 2026. He was born July 15, 1958 in Melrose Park, IL to Harold & Evelyn Witthoeft.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and provider, truly the heart and center of his family. Selfless, deeply caring, and incredibly empathetic, he had a way of taking on the burdens of others and offering comfort to anyone who needed it. A hard worker throughout his life, he was dependable to his core and a pillar of strength for those around him. He accepted people exactly as they were, never judgmental, always kind, and always a giver, never a taker.
He shared 42 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Tanzie, whom he met while working at a winery, marking the beginning of a lifelong partnership and a strong, devoted family.
He had a charismatic personality and a great sense of humor, known for his classic dad jokes and his playful, good-hearted back-and-forth with others. That lighthearted “jousting” was part of what made being around him so special. More than anything, he was a best friend and confidant to his children, someone you could go to with anything, knowing he would listen without judgment and carry your stress as if it were his own.
A devoted Chicago sports fan, he rarely missed a chance to cheer on the Cubs, Bears, and Blackhawks. He enjoyed bowling and golfing, often joking about his slice, especially during rounds played with his brothers over the years, time together he always valued.
He cherished time spent with his grandchildren and created countless memories during family outings to the river house, where days were filled with fishing, boating, and laughter. He took great pride in hosting family holidays, bringing everyone together with warmth and love. He was also known for his cooking, especially his soup, which became a favorite and lasting memory for many.
He touched countless lives with his kindness, generosity, and unwavering presence. To his family, he was more than just a father or grandfather, he was the one they leaned on, the one who held them together, and the one who will be deeply missed every day.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years Tanzie; his children April Witthoeft & Jonathan Witthoeft; his grandchildren Anthony, Isaiah, Jaxson & Octavia; his siblings Steve (Diane) Witthoeft, Craig (Kasey) Witthoeft, & Mark (Dana) Witthoeft.
He was preceded in death by his siblings David (Maria) Witthoeft & Judy (Eddie) Schultz; and his parents.
