Gwendolyn McCreary, age 87, a resident of Carol Stream, IL, passed away on Thursday, March 7, 2019, at home. She was born May 15, 1931 in Chicago, IL.

Gwendolyn, the daughter of Hollis and Elizabeth Gibson, was raised in Wheaton and attended Lowell elementary, Longfellow Jr. High, and Wheaton Community High School. She met and married Malcolm McCreary Jr. her high school sweetheart, and of this union was born six children. Gwendolyn loved to sew clothing for her children, and was also gifted in upholstering, and knitting, which she found very relaxing. During her working career she worked as a microfiche technician, a bailiff for DuPage County, a cook for the archdiocese of Joliet where she retired. In retirement she transported special needs children, until her health caused her to stop working again. Gwendolyn battled breast cancer, and went into remission for several years, unfortunately cancer ultimately claimed her life. Her last wish was for all to be screened.

She is survived by her four children, Marcia (the late Jasper) Mahone of Carol Stream, Malcolm (Marsha) McCreary III of Westmont, IL, Kelly (Wade) Young of Wheaton, IL, Wendy McCreary of Carol Stream; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson, Cayden Ma Chi'; two sisters, Victoria Caffey and Gloria Claybourne; her sister-in-law, Dora Yvonne Manns; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Malcolm McCreary Jr.; two sons, Anthony Blake McCreary and Guy Hollis McCreary; two grandsons, Justin E. Mahone and Malcolm L. McCreary; and six siblings.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. until the start of a funeral service to be held at 11:00 a.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., in Wheaton, IL. Interment will follow at Wheaton Cemetery in Wheaton, IL.
