IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Gordon A.
Scott
July 22, 1964 – November 16, 2024
Gordon Anthony Scott was born on July 22, 1964, in Freeport, Grand Bahamas, to Edward and Dorothy Scott. He peacefully passed away, leaving a lasting impact on the lives of all who knew him. He was the third child of four, following his eldest brother Jonathan, his elder brother James, and followed by his little sister Alyson. Gordon's life was marked by his deep love for his family, his unwavering Christian faith, his dedication to others, and service to his country.
Raised in a home filled with warmth, love, and strong Christian foundations, Gordon was part of a close-knit family where his parents, Ed and Dorothy, played a profound role in shaping his character. With the loving assistance and care of special family member, Lydoria Malcolm, they raised their children with strong Christian values, instilling in them a deep-seated sense of faith, confidence and character. He and his siblings were raised with a foundational understanding of their Christian roots and their Jamaican heritage, which heavily influenced their perspectives and values throughout their lives. Gordon consistently embraced and lived out these values as he grew into the man everyone admired and enjoyed being around.
Throughout his formative years in Freeport, Grand Bahamas and Miami, Florida, Gordon was nurtured by family, faith, and friendships. Weekly family worship became the place where he learned music. He played the drums and trumpet in church, but was best known as a member of the "Scott Brothers Trio". He excelled in academics and athletics, winning the 1982 Silver Knight Award in Athletics, becoming a first string quarterback for the South Miami High School Cobras, as well as a dynamic member of the West Point Black Knights. Upon graduation from The United States Military Academy in 1986 and commissioning as a Second Lieutenant in the Field Artillery Branch, Gordon served his country in the Army for thirty years, and was stationed in the continental US and Hawaii. After a distinguished career, he retired from fulltime service having achieved the rank of Colonel.
It was during his military service that he met and married his now former wife, Kathy with whom he had triplets, Victoria, Rex, and Donna. Gordon devoted himself with great joy and pride to being their dad, which he would say was his greatest title and achievement. This was evidenced in the way he loved, cared for, and provided for them, raising them also to embrace a deep personal faith in Christ.
To say that Gordon was an outgoing, people person is a gross understatement! Gordon never met a stranger and he brought light and life to those who encountered him. He amassed a vast and wide network of amazing friends from childhood, churches, West Point, the Army, working as Operations Manager and later Director of Global Process Improvement for the Panduit Corporation, as a spiritual leader at Calvary Church of Naperville, and even as beloved tenant to the Alto Senior Assisted Living Community. He is held dearly in the hearts of those who knew him, leaving an indelible, larger-than-life impression on them.
Gordon's hobbies included singing, dancing, being an avid NCAA Army football fan and NFL Miami Dolphins fan, playing Sudoku, raising several beloved dogs, and embarrassing or pranking his children in public! He has been described as lively, heartwarming, life-changing, conspiring, inspiring, committed, humble, gentle, and unbothered. However, the one quality that stands out in the minds of his kids is "present". Gordon miraculously made time to be in their lives in creative and supportive ways. He fiercely loved and adored his kids! He invested his life in doing all he could to bring benefit to theirs, to help them mature, excel, and become the amazing adults they are.
Gordon's faith in Christ was at the heart of everything he did. It was the foundation upon which he built his life, guiding his decisions and his interactions with others. He was a man who lived out the truth of Colossians 3:23, "Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men." Whether he was at work, at home, or serving his community, Gordon did everything with a heart that sought to honor God in all things. While Gordon's passing has left a deep hole in the hearts of those who loved him, his legacy of faith, love, and service will live on in his children, grandchildren, and all those who were touched by his life. His dedication to God, family, and others will continue to inspire future generations.
Gordon was preceded in death by his father, Edward, but is survived by his loving mother, Dorothy, and cherished family member Lydoria Malcolm. He is survived by his daughter Victoria and her husband, Isaac Anderson, and his beloved grandson Kawika; his son Rex; and his daughter Donna and her husband, Joseph Voegtle, and his beautiful granddaughter Beatrice. Gordon is also survived by his siblings, Jonathan, who is married to Aimee, and his children; James, who is married to Marjorie, and their children; and Alyson, who is married to Rick Crews, and their children, along with several cousins.
