March 20, 1934 – June 16, 2020
Gordon Tyler Maxson, age 86, a resident of Wheaton, died June 16, 2020, at Westbridge Assisted Living at Wyndemere in Wheaton. He was born March 20, 1934 to Raymond & Sylvia Maxson.
Gordon was born and raised in Elmhurst, IL and graduated from Elmhurst College in 1959. Gordon served in the Army for about 2 years, where his love of music and expertise on the clarinet enabled him to play in the Army band. He enjoyed playing tennis from the time he was a boy and introduced his children and grandchildren to the sport.
For most of Gordon's career he worked as a buyer at Montgomery Wards which allowed him to travel to Hong Kong and many other interesting locations around the world.
Once Gordon retired, he enjoyed golfing and traveling with Marge especially to their condo in WI, AZ and FL. Other interests included teaching rules of the road to seniors, reading mystery novels and car magazines.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years Marjorie; his children Nancy (Roger) Gibson, Linda (Phil) Shea and David (Janice) Maxson; his grandchildren Meagan (Arthur) Kinsey, Lauren Drapalik, Krista Drapalik, Ryan (Morgan) Shea, Danny Shea, Kayla Maxson and Kevin Maxson; and one great-grandchild, Amelia Kinsey. Also survived by his brother Ralph (Wanda) Maxson.
Due to the ongoing world health crisis, private family services were held. A private burial was held at Assumption Cemetery.
