Obituary

Gordon Clifford Brown, age 94, passed very peacefully into heaven on December 6, 2019. Gordon was born on May 27, 1925 in Chicago, IL to parents, William Hugh Brown and Sarah Gordon Watson Brown. He graduated from Morgan Park High School in 1943, while our country was fighting World War II. He was drafted that summer and entered the Navy in August 1943. He reported to Great Lakes, IL Naval Station. He achieved Electrician's Mate 2nd Class, serving on a repair ship in the Pacific Ocean. Gordon was honorably discharged in 1946. In 2010, he had the great privilege of going on the Honor Flight Chicago to Washington DC, a true honor to him and all veterans.
On returning to Chicago, he began his career as an electrician and qualified as Journeyman Electrician with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 134 in 1951. He retired from the IBEW in 1992.
Gordon and Joan Drozdz were married in 1976 and lived in Crestwood, IL. He served as an elder at Oak Forest Bible Chapel, and then more recently at Oak Lawn Bible Chapel. They often welcomed guest speakers from church into their home for a Sunday meal. Gordon was the guy that friends, family, church or neighbors could call to fix or build anything at all. He was very generous with his time and talents. He was an avid fisherman, especially with his best friend, Jim Wright. Loving the sun and water, he and Joan took annual trips to the Florida beach.
After his beloved Joan's passing in 2018, Gordon moved to Belmont Village in Carol Stream, IL to be closer to his children. He made several friends there and was a friendly face to all he met. His caregivers talked often about what a kind, nice man he was.
Above all, recently, Gordon longed to leave this earth to meet his Savior. And his deepest desire was for all to be assured of eternity in heaven as he was. Heaven is now his reality!
Gordon is survived by 4 children: Clifford (Jackie) Brown of West Chicago; Russell Brown of Batavia; Nancy (Doug) Waterman of Wheaton; Becky (Matt) Garrett of Wheaton; and by 10 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren; step-daughter Debbie Reule, stepdaughter-in-law Barbara Drozdz and 2 stepgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Joan; his parents; his step-son James Drozdz; and two sisters Doris Murphy and Edna Brandt.
A visitation will be held December 14, 2019 from 2:00 until the start of a funeral service at 3:00 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home. Interment will take place on Monday December 16th, 11:30 a.m. at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Illinois.
