Obituary

Gordon Vincent Biggar, 83, a resident of Windsor Park in Carol Stream, IL, fell asleep and woke up with his Lord and Savior on December 12th, 2015. He was born on December 10, 1932 in Elmhurst, IL to George and Genevieve Chappell Biggar.

Gordon grew up in several locations including Cincinnati, OH, Cedar Rapids, IA, and Wheaton IL, graduating from Wheaton High School in 1951. While attending the HYACKs high school group at College Church in Wheaton, Gordon made his most important life decision to follow the Lord Jesus throughout his life. Gordon graduated from Bradley University, majoring in business administration, in 1955. While at Bradley, he enjoyed running on the school's cross country team and being involved in Intervarsity Christian Fellowship. After graduating from college, Gordon enlisted in the US Army, and served at Fort Lewis, Washington, and at Fairbanks, Alaska.

Following his service in the US Army, Gordon worked in both the insurance industry and as a district executive for the Boy Scouts of America, living and working in Rockford, Freeport, Kewanee, and Washington, IL. At the end of his working life, he drove a school bus for the East Peoria school district.

He met his wife, Annette Moller on a blind date in Chicago in 1961, and married in October, 1962. He was a devoted husband and father to his wife and three children.

Gordon fully retired in 2007, at the age of 74. Gordon and Annette continued to live in Washington, IL till 2014, when his declining health led Gordon and Annette to relocate to the Windsor Park Retirement Community in Carol Stream, IL.

Gordon and his wife Annette were active members of Grace Bible Church in Washington, IL from 1976 to 2014. He was a devout Christian, who enjoyed serving in his church. For many years, he worked as Grace Bible Church's Sunday school superintendent. He also helped start the Church's AWANA program, and was its AWANA commander for many years.

One of Gordon's favorite hobbies was running. After resuming his running career while in his 40s, he was an active member of the Illinois Valley Striders. He ran in numerous races, winning many trophies for his age group. He ran twice in the Chicago Marathon in his late 50s. He continued running into his 70s. He was also very involved in helping to organize races, and served as the director of the Folepi River Trail Classic race in East Peoria for many years.

In addition to his wife Annette, Gordon is survived by his three children: son David Gordon (wife Alice) of Navarre, FL; daughter Marsha Kathleen Chiang (husband Paul) of Winfield, IL; and son Daniel Vincent of Chicago, IL. He is survived by five grandchildren: Caleb, Joshua, and Annagrace Chiang, and Sarah and Jonathan Biggar. Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Betty Gene Hare, and his brother George.

Gordon had a dry sense of humor to the end. After breaking his leg a few weeks ago, he told his daughter to tell people he had "breaking news".
