Gloria A. Krypel, age 91, a long time resident of Wheaton, died January 10, 2016, at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, Illinois. She was born December 29, 1924 in Chicago to Casimer and Cecilia Anis.
Gloria graduated from Foreman High School in Chicago and then Northwestern University in Evanston, where she was an active participant in the annual WaMu show. She loved her Wildcats and traveled to their last Rose Bowl game in 1996 when they played USC. She managed the HR department for Lord and Taylor, Bloomingdales and retired from the Little Traveler in Geneva. She was a beautiful lady who enjoyed going to the theater and traveling the globe, especially when it involved a cruise. Gloria was also very passionate about cooking and gardening. She maintained a very active lifestyle, which included playing tennis, as member of the Wheaton Sports Center since its opening. She enjoyed spending time with her four grandchildren and supported her daughter's ice skating career. As an avid Chicago Sports fan, following the Cubs, Bears, Blackhawks & Bulls, she was very disappointed that the Cubs never won the World Series during her lifetime.
She reconnected with her Foreman H.S. sweetheart Ray in 1996, whom she married in 1998 and became inseparable for the next 18 years. She is survived by her husband Ray, two children, Candice "Candy" Brown of Wheaton and Robert Kenton (MaryPat) Brown of Irvine, CA, four grandchildren, Lindsay and Lauren Brown and Christine Wagner and Courtney Burek and great-granddaughter, Natalie Rose Wagner. Also, her four stepchildren Carol Callard, Carla Jegen, Bill Krypel, Michael Krypel and grandson's Peter Jegen and Christopher Krypel. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Lorraine Weber.
A visitation will be held on Friday, January 15, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Wheaton, IL. A mass will be held on Saturday, January 16, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Daniel the Prophet Catholic Church. Interment will follow at St. Adalbert Cemetery in Niles.
