Gladys Mary Quigg Blodgett Jr, age 93, a longtime resident of Wheaton, died June 19, 2013, at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, Illinois. She was born September 2, 1919 in Pittsfield, Massachusetts to Ross Parker Blodgett Sr. and Gladys Mary Quigg Blodgett, Sr.
Gladys moved to Wheaton as a child and graduated from Wheaton High School. She went on to receive a Bachelor of Science degree in nutrition from Iowa University. During WWII she enlisted with the Marine Corp and served as a Link trainer. Following the war she worked as a teacher in northern Minnesota for a short time and then moved to Chicago and began a 40 year career with the National Safety Council. In the late 1980's she moved back to Wheaton where she was an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church.
She is survived by a niece, Jalane Demore, nephews, Raymond Blodgett and Ross Blodgett III, her sister-in-law Retta Blodgett and many dear friends including Sarah West and Joyce Thompson. Her parents and one brother, Ross Parker Jr., preceded her in death.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 25, from 10 to 11 am at Trinity Episcopal Church, 130 N. West St., Wheaton, where a funeral service will follow at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Canon Linda Potter officiating. Interment will follow at Wheaton Cemetery.
