Gladys Margaret Baker, nee Perkins, age 84, a 50 year resident of Wheaton and Glen Ellyn, died Tuesday, May 10 at the Central Du Page Hospital in Winfield. She was born on July 17, 1920 in Chicago to Frank and Gladys Perkins. She was raised in Oak Park and was a 1936 graduate of Oak Park High School.
Gladys was a member of the Wheaton/Glen Ellyn Eastern Star, the Glen Ellyn Women's Club, Sweet Adelines, and was a 50 year member of the First Presbyterian Church of Glen Ellyn. She also served as PTA president, youth center president, and volunteered at Geneva Hospital. She loved all animals.
She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Leander Baker, two daughters, Nancy Baker of Warrenville and Marilee (Chuck) Baker Schmidt of Ellsworth, WI, four grandchildren, Christopher, Eric, Matthew and Sara, one brother, James (Shirley) Perkins of TX and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 12 from 4 until 8 p.m. at the Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St. in Wheaton, where a funeral service will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. with Rev. John Curphey officiating.
Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Gardens West in Oakbrook Terrace.
