Gilbert W. Mead, age 83, a resident of Windsor Park Manor in Carol Stream, IL and formerly a longtime resident of Elmhurst, IL, died Thursday, November 25, 2010 at home. He was born April 4, 1927 in Battle Creek, Michigan.
Gil worked at Moody Bible Institute for 42 years, where he performed on WMBI Radio, and taught in the Sacred Music Department. He was the Minister of Music at a number of Chicagoland churches, including Judson Baptist in Oak Park, First Baptist Church of Elmhurst. He was also the organist at Wheaton Bible Church and College Church in Wheaton. He built and maintained pipe organs thoughout the Chicagoland area. He was a member of Immanuel Presbyterian Church in Warrenville, IL.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Martha; four sons, Stephen (Marjorie) Mead of Wheaton, IL, Bob (Connie) Mead of Oak Park, IL, David (Brenda Simms) Mead of Austin, TX, and Don (Karen Sarasin) Mead of Arlington Heights, IL; six grandchildren, Ryan, Erik, Leota, Adam, Jonathan and Anna Mead; his great-grandson, Tobias; his sister, Beverly (Richard) Todd; two nephews, Mark and John Todd; and his niece, Lynne Matlock.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, November 28, 2010 from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., in Wheaton, IL. Visitation will continue on Monday morning from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service to be held at 11:00 a.m. at Immanuel Presbyterian Church, 29w260 Batavia Road, in Warrenville, IL. Interment will be private at Wheaton Cemetery.
