Obituary

Geraldyne (Gerry) Brown Myers, age 91, Carol Stream, IL, formerly of Elmhurst, IL, and Chicago, IL, died peacefully in her home at Windsor Park Sunday morning, September 2, 2018.

Born April 18, 1927 in Shreveport, Louisiana. Gerry served the Lord faithfully throughout her life and as the wife of Pastor, Dr. William R. Myers, Sr., (1926 – 2016). She was a tireless servant of others, who cared for the young and old alike and never met a stranger. She had a smile and kind word for everyone and truly exemplified the teachings of Christ through her words and acts of kindness.

Her life verse was Acts 20:24 King James Version (KJV): But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.

Daughter of Aubrey Barker Brown and Bertha Haegi Brown, Gerry spoke fondly of her early years in Shreveport, LA and Cincinnati, OH. As a teenager, she became a born again Christian and enrolled in Wheaton College, Wheaton, IL, where she earned a B.A. in Christian Education.

She served faithfully as the wife and partner of her husband, who was the senior pastor of several American Baptist Churches including: Maineville Baptist, Maineville, OH; Ridgeview Baptist, Danville, IL; Irving Park Baptist and North Shore Baptist Churches in Chicago, IL. and ultimately the President of Northern Baptist Theological Seminary in Lombard, IL.

As long as she was physically able, she continued to visit the sick and lonely, young and old; and entertain multitudes at their home in Elmhurst, Il.

Gerry was an avid reader and prolific writer; she enjoyed poetry, genealogy, church music and hymns. She was an independent and capable driver and liked exploring Chicago neighborhoods. In addition, she appreciated musical movies and plays, watching the Kentucky Derby, picnics, dessert, family time and celebrating everyone's birthday (and even half birthdays)!

Gerry has joined the many who have preceded her in death including her parents, brother, husband and multitudes of other relatives and friends in Gods eternal kingdom.

She is survived by her four children, Christine (Rich Muñiz) Myers Muñiz of Rockford, IL, William Richard Myers, Jr. (Kathleen Welch) of Cincinnati, OH, Beth (Mark House) Myers House of Wintergreen, VA, and Bruce (Gina) Myers of Bloomington, IN, ten grandchildren, Nathan Richard (Christine Kim) Kendall, Courtney Anna Kendall, Matthew Muñiz (Vincent Bradshaw), Sarah Lapinel Muñiz, Amie Elisabeth Stewart (Michael Stewart), Benjamin Alexander House, Kyle William (Becca) House, Brianna Michelle Myers, Brett Philip Myers, Brady William Myers and two great grandchildren, Kylie Stewart and Jackson House.

Visitation will be held Saturday, September 8, 2018, 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., First Baptist Church of Oak Park , 820 Ontario Street, Oak Park, IL.
