IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Geraldine Kay
Miller
August 9, 1933 – May 26, 2024
Geraldine Kay Miller, age 90, a resident of Monarch Landing in Naperville, IL, died peacefully at home on Sunday, May 26, 2024. She was born August 9, 1933, in Highland Park, Michigan to Forest and Florence Miller. At home, her parents taught her and her four siblings Christian principles and values for which she remained grateful her entire life.
Jeri earned her Masters in Education at the University of Colorado and went on to become head of Human Relations at Siemens Corporation in Colorado at a time when the field was dominated by men. She told many stories of the battles she fought to assert her skills and expertise in hiring, training, and maintaining the workforce at Siemens. Additionally, Jeri was a successful entrepreneur having owned a pet grooming business in Boulder while she lived there.
In her adult life, Jeri lived in New York, West Virginia, the Chicago area, Boulder, Colorado, and most recently in Naperville. It was in Boulder that she met her dearest friend of 50 years, Merilyn Dahlquist. With Merilyn, Jeri enjoyed traveling to western Europe and throughout the United States. They both loved the Boulder area and spent many summers at their cabin near Estes Park. Jeri and Merilyn both shared a love of dogs and adopted many rescue pups.
Jeri loved to poke gentle fun with her sense of humor. She was a go-getter and a community builder. If she saw a need, she would create a group. A long time resident of Monarch Landing, she started a Pet Owners' Club, taught bible study classes, started a monthly hymn sing at which she played the piano and led the singing, and created the "Don't Be Alone on Christmas Eve" tradition. Jeri, Merilyn, and their dogs, Molly, Heidi, and Lucy formed a Goose Patrol to chase off errant geese who tried to settle at Monarch Landing. The dogs were even issued official Monarch Landing Goose Patrol badges. Jeri would also make frequent visits with one of the dogs to The Springs when she was able.
She is survived by her brother, Dale Miller of Rio Rancho, NM, many dear friends at Monarch Landing, and her pastor, Cheryl Baird. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and numerous cousins.
Jeri looked forward to joining family, friends, and her many fur babies in Heaven. In comments she had written to be read at her Memorial Service, she wrote, "May God richly bless each of you and may you know the love and glory and resurrection power of Jesus Christ in your life from henceforth and forever. Amen."
A memorial service will be held in The Fireside Room at Monarch landing, 2255 Monarch Drive, Naperville, IL 60563, on Friday, July 19, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. The service will be officiated by Pastor Cheryl Baird with musical assistance by Jerrianne Isley. Light refreshments will be offered at the reception following the service.
