Gerald M. Merritt's Obituary
Gerald M. Merritt, age 76, a resident of Wheaton, IL, died July 22, 2013, Winfield, IL. He was born July 11, 1937 in Detroit, MI.
He attended the University of Michigan and was in the Lamda Chi Alpha fraternity. In 1957 he fought forest fires in California for the U.S. Forest services. In 1961 he graduated from Wayne State University with a degree in business. Gerry also joined the Army National Guard and served for 6 years.
He worked for Simmons Co. as a marketing representative and manager for 33 years, retiring in 1994. Gerry enjoyed playing golf; he loved all sports, was an avid reader, and liked watching political shows.
He was a wonderful husband, father, grandpa, friend, and a remarkable man who loved life and whose great sense of humor kept everybody laughing. He is survived by his wife Anne, daughter Susan McCarthy, son John Merritt, 5 grandchildren, brother Gordon Merritt, sister Barbara Chadwick, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held September 28, 2013 from 12 noon until the time of a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Wheaton, IL 60187. Interment was private.
