Gerald "Jerry" Robert Hansen, age 90 of Downers Grove.  Beloved husband of the late Carol (Egeland) Hansen.  Son of Angeline and Albert Hansen.  Loving father of Eric (Kelly) Hansen and Sharon (Larry) Hime.  Proud grandfather of Cori & Kenna Hansen and Becky Hime. Gerald had a love of singing since the age of 14.  He was involved in the University of Illinois Glee Club, his choir at La Grange Bible Church, SPEBSQSA, West Suburban Men's Choir and many, many barbershop quartets. He served in the Army as a Medical Trainer. Once out of the army, Jerry attended and graduated University of Illinois. After meeting at a class in college, he married Carol in 1963. Once he earned his master's degree from Michigan State University, Jerry started as a teacher and coach at McClure Middle School in Western Springs and eventually went on to become a Driver's Ed teacher and coach for many years at Downers Grove South High School. Upon retirement, Gerald enjoyed golfing and traveling with Carol.  He also very much enjoyed crossword puzzles and spending time with his granddaughters. His knowledge of Civil War history was unparalleled.

A visitation will be held Friday, December 15, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Wheaton, IL, where a funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. The service will be livestreamed through this link: Funeral Service for Gerald Hansen . Interment will be private at Ridgewood Cemetery in Des Plaines, Illinois.
