Obituary

George W. White, age 84, a resident of Warrenville, IL, died April 27, 2024.  He was born November 29, 1939 in Memphis, TN.

Even from a young age, he was a storyteller and artist that received so much inspiration from great sci-fis and westerns. He wouldn't use these skills until later in life, but they were born from the comics, movies, and tv shows that he loved to watch. From the mysticism of Doctor Strange to the quick wit and movement of the Flash, but reading sci-fi books were one of the his favorite things to do for so much of his life. Later in life, he wrote two captivating books, but the surprise to not only himself but his family, was his turn as an artist. After his wife challenged to exceed what he thought was possible, he decided to make his own art. His medium of choice was oil painting and nothing else would do. His catalogue of art exploded after years of drawings and paintings. Even his neighbors were in awe and even offered to pay him for his work or commissions, but his art was for himself, his family, and so that maybe young black kids could see themselves in his work or know they can accomplish wonders themselves. As every artist who has ever lived knows, they will never finish all of their work. Two such works are that of him and his younger brother, Hardie as children and, the second, a large painting filled with black artist and activist in appreciation for all they had done. His was a journey filled with imagination and love. In his darkest moments, he never lost his humor whether it was a joke or a chuckle that lit up the room. In his final weeks, many thought that he would not last more than a couple of days, but no one could tell him when to die. He chose for himself, keeping his wife and son company for one more week.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Rose; his son Sebastian; and his brother Hardie White. He was preceded in death by his father Joseph White; his mother Ida Mae White; and his brother James White.
