IN LOVING MEMORY OF
George
Taylor
June 30, 1935 – February 5, 2023
George Taylor, age 87, a resident of Carol Stream, IL, formerly of Harlan County, KY, passed away on Sunday, February 5, 2023. He was born June 30, 1935 in Harlan County to Henry & Vina Taylor.
George grew up in Eastern Kentucky and moved to Chicago in the early 1950's. He met his eventual wife, Midge, and they were married in 1959. He worked in the paper industry as a Truck driver where he eventually retired in 1999.
During his lifetime he was a great parent to his two children, actively involved in sporting and school activities. He was always supportive and a source of strength and guidance for his children.
George's hobbies were trains, hot wheels, knives collecting, and he always took his family on vacations to enjoy special moments together that have been lasting and sources of joyous memories.
Steve: Grandpa was a true family man. He always knew how to show his love to his family. He loved fishing and taking his dogs out for walks in the forest preserve. He even pulled his grandson out of a lake from drowning. He is my hero, the only and best grandpa I ever had. I remember the trips we would take to the hobby shop, Toys R Us, and even the bank. Most of all, I will miss the train shows we would go to together. I will miss him deeply. But he will live on in our hearts. His marriage with grandma is a beautiful love. From a young age they started their lives, made a difference and ventured out from Kentucky to Chicago to make a life for themselves. That they did, raised two wonderful children of God. Before they knew it they became grandparents, and they were undeniably amazing at it. Celebrating holidays, birthdays, family vacations and even marriages! His life was fully happily lived. Grandpa sure did love listening to country music. He would more than tap his toe to some Willy Nelson.
Britt: Grandpa was a simple man. He was sweet, peaceful, calm, and laid back. He loved to garden, maintain his lawn, keep his house nice and tidy, and treated his dogs well. He loved his trains, his country music, his coffee, and he especially loved falling asleep at McDonalds. Grandpa found joy in everything- he had a laugh that was contagious! I will miss those summers with long hours spent in the pool, walks in the forest preserve with the dogs, family vacations, family holidays, and birthdays. We shared many moments watching sports on TV while eating something delicious that Grandma cooked or baked- her southern comfort food, peanut butter fudge, chocolate fudge, or banana pudding. He sure loved her cooking and all of the goodies she baked. Not only did he love her cooking, but he really loved my Grandmother. I always thought it was really cute watching him rub her feet on the couch and giving her massages when she asked for them. I enjoyed watching them act silly and laugh loudly together. Their love was beautiful and inspiring. They were best friends.
He is survived by his son Alan (Rose) Taylor; his grandson Steve (Lalaine) Taylor, Brittany Taylor, Melissa Gulley, and his great-grandson Shane.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Midge and his daughter, Kim.
