IN LOVING MEMORY OF
George M.
Rapinchuk
February 7, 1941 – September 14, 2025
George M. Rapinchuk, age 84, of West Chicago, IL, passed away on Sunday, September 14, 2025.
Born on February 7, 1941, George grew up in Chicago and attended Mark Twain Elementary and Kelly High School. He went on to Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina, where he earned a four-year football scholarship and became a starting linebacker and fullback.
After graduating with a degree in business, George quickly put his skills to use. He began his career at 3M Company, became co-owner of Marklite Tape & Label Company, and in 1983 launched a long and successful career as a State Farm Insurance agent.
George was also active outside of work. He served in the Army and National Guard for six years and was never one to sit still for long. Throughout his life, he poured his energy into his community and church—working as a Chicago lifeguard, serving as a Rotary Club member, teaching Sunday School, leading Awana, ushering, and participating in both the Church Bowling League and the Homebuilders Class.
He was especially devoted to missions, serving on the church mission board and faithfully attending prayer meetings. After the passing of his beloved wife, George volunteered with the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association prayer line, where he answered questions about the gospel, offered compassion, and prayed for those in need.
George loved to travel, and especially cherished his three-month European honeymoon with the love of his life, Dolores "Dee" Rapinchuk, to whom he was married for 44 joyful years. He also found great joy in gardening, sailing with his dear friend Bob Sorenson, and treasured each moment spent with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his three children, George W. (Becky) Rapinchuk of Geneva, IL; Laura (Matt) Pheneger of Hiram, OH; and Michelle (Brian) Bowen of West Chicago, IL. He was a proud and loving grandfather to Piper, Jameson, Marcus, Claire, Alyssa, Braeden, Alana, Makena, Tess, and BJ. George is also survived by his siblings, Judy Armstrong, Sam Rapinchuk, Tom Rapinchuk, and Ann Budnik.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dolores, "Dee"; grandson, Sterling Bowen; and siblings Andy Rapinchuk, Paul Rapinchuk, Ed Rapinchuk, Ruth Rost, and Walter Rapinchuk.
