George Bernard Lynch, age 84, born August 16, 1931 in Pottsville, Pa. went to his heavenly home on March 14, 2016 while in Cedar Lake, IN. Preceded in death by wife Dorothy, wife Cathy and son Kerry. Survived by sons, Richard (Karen) Lynch, Brian (Karen) Lynch, and daughter Brenda (Guy) Thompson, step daughters Kim Gustafson (Scott), Kelly Ahline, and Wendy Daugherty. 16 grandchildren and 16 and growing, great grandchildren.
He served in the Navy from 1949-1953 enlisting when he was 17. While in the Navy George completed several programs including Airman School. He ended his Military Career working in the office of The National Security Agency.
George had a successful career in the railroad supply, automotive and aerospace industries, starting as an Industrial Engineer at Bethlehem Steel Corp. in Johnstown, Pa. and holding various executive positions at Ford Motor Co., Evans Products Co., Fansteel Corp. and Varlan Corporation. George knew about Charles Deming and used his tools and methods before they became a popular practices in Operations. This quote is a great example of how George worked, "If you can't describe what you are doing as a process, you don't know what you're doing."

Continuing education was important to George and he earned certificates in Metallurgy and Ferrous metals from the University of Pittsburgh. In addition to ongoing general education he was certified by the Society of Manufacturing Engineers.
A lifelong sports guy, George played baseball as a youth and Legion ball as a teenager. In his mid-years, he played golf and was always a huge Penn State football fan. He excelled at Monday morning Quarterbacking the Bears! A 3 generation trip to Beaver Stadium was a milestone vacation for him.
During his entire life George loved his Lord and Savior and devoted much time and labor to the churches in which he was a member. George was an early member of Hope Church in Wheaton, Illinois.
Family was foundational to George and he enjoyed spending time with his many grandchildren and great grandchildren, while splitting the year between his home in Illinois and Texas. In his later years George enjoyed the warm Gulf climate of Southern Texas and the glorious Wildlife around South Padre Island.
Love for his country and the beauty of the United States were important to him. He enjoyed long car trips, completed the 3200 mile Hot Rod Power Tour Long Haul in 2012 in a Shelby Convertible and also enjoyed viewing nature on those trips. He was very proud that he walked part of the Great Wall of China on one of his final business trips. As a Depression Era Baby from a poor coal region of Eastern Pennsylvania, George took life's challenges head on and succeeded in achieving his life goals. He left a path of faith and integrity for his family to follow.
A visitation will be held on Friday, March 18, 2016 from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., in Wheaton, IL where a funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be private at Wheaton Cemetery.
