Obituary

George Hofmann, age 82, a longtime resident of Winfield, IL, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, February 15, 2024, at home surrounded by his family.  He was born May 30, 1941, in Chicago to August and Hannah Hofmann.

George grew up in Maywood, Illinois and graduated from Proviso East High School in 1959. After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed at Ft. Carson, Colorado as a Medical Technician.  He met Gloria Lewis at West Suburban Bible Church and they were married on August 7, 1971.  He worked for Good News Publishing/Lithocolor Press (Crossway Books) for 36 years.  He then worked at Yorke Printe Shoppe in Lombard for 5 years.

His Christian faith was central to his life and he was a member of the First Baptist Church of Wheaton (now Highpoint Church) for many years.  He served as an AWANA leader, Sunday School teacher, sang in the choir and helped with maintenance of the facilities.  He was an active and willing volunteer and served at Northern IL Food Pantry and recently at Highpoint Cares, a ministry of the church, which provides various types of support to the local community.

He was a person who loved to be with people and cared about the details of their lives.  He was someone who lit up a room. He loved to make people laugh and was a fun-loving person to be around.

He is survived by his wife, Gloria, his children, Gayle Hofmann of MI, Gregory (Rachel) Hofmann of MN, and Garrett (Katherine) Hofmann of Springfield, IL, four grandchildren, Alex, Henry, Annabelle, and Noah and one brother, August "Gus" (Jean) Hofmann of Geneva, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 21, 2024 from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Highpoint Church, Wheaton, IL where a funeral service will follow at 3:00 p.m. Interment will be held at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Illinois, Thursday February 22 at 11:00 a.m.
