George M. Hedstrom, age 93, a resident of Fairhaven Christian Retirement Community in Rockford, and formerly a longtime resident of Chicago, died Monday, September 17 at home. He was born in Chicago on January 28, 1914 to C.B. and Sabina Hedstrom.

Mr. Hedstrom was an active member of Lakeview/Edgebrook Free Church in Chicago where he had been chairman of the Trustees, Financial Secretary, sang in the Choir and taught Sunday School. Recently he has been a member of the First Evangelical Free Church of Rockford. He was a co-owner of C.B. Hedstrom Sons Shoe Stores in Andersonville and Edgebrook and served as chairman of the Andersonville Chamber of Commerce.

George is survived by his beloved wife of 70 years, Vivian, he was devoted to his three children, Bruce (Alice) of Carmel, IN, Barbara (Tom) Fletcher of Plano, TX, and Ronald (Norma) of Piedmont, SC, 8 cherished grandchildren, Melissa (Gary) Brooks, Kristina (Donald) Newell, Karalynn Fletcher, Kevin, Cary (Christy) and Courtney Hedstrom, and David (Michelle) and Heather Parisi, and 11 great-grandchildren, Miranda, Bailey, Sean, Annika, Peter, T.J., Christian, Carter, Emma, Isabel and Aiden. He is also survived by 5 nieces and a nephew and many friends.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Frances Hanson and Mildred Runsten and two brothers, Cliffton and Irving Hedstrom, and his parents.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 20, from 12:00 noon until 1:00 p.m. at the First Evangelical Free Church, 2223 N. Mulford Rd. in Rockford, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 p.m.

Interment will be held privately at Memorial Park in Skokie.
