George Van Der Molen, age 86, a resident of West Chicago, for 35 years, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Wednesday, April 25, 2012, at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, Illinois. He was born December 1, 1925 to Edward and Elizabeth Van Der Molen.
As a young man, George joined his father's business. Along with his brothers, he helped build Van Der Molen Disposal into a large and successful firm. After the family sold the firm in 1972 he continued to serve as an executive for the new owners. Throughout his life he always attributed his success to God's blessing and grace rather than his own efforts.
He was a charter member of Fellowship Reformed Church in Lombard where he served in many roles and was fundamental in the growth and well being of the church. In recent years he has been a dedicated and faithful member of Faith Community Church in West Chicago. Throughout his life he dedicated himself to Christian service and was an active leader and board member of many faith related organizations.
He is survived by three sons, Gary (Karla) of West Chicago, Russell (Leah) of West Chicago and Dennis (Fritzie) of West Chicago, seven grandchildren, Gary J. (Kristen) of North Aurora, Cassandra (Eric) Brooks of Brownsburg, IN, Aaron of West Chicago, Seth of Batavia, Laura (Dan) Meyer of Cedar Lake, IN, Victoria (Ron) Keith of North Aurora and Jared of West Chicago, six great-grandchildren, Brooke, Jaxon, Logan, Mason, Owen and Aubrey and two sister-in-laws, Katherine "Joyce" (Dr. James Cook) Van Der Molen and Johanna Madrigali.
He had numerous caregivers including Ederlinda, for whom he had a special fondness.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice one son, Craig, five siblings, Bernard, Nell VanderArk, Harold, Everett and Dorothy Setsma and his parents.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, April 29, from 1 to 7 pm at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St. in Wheaton. A funeral service will be held on Monday, at 10:30 A.M. at Faith Community Church, 910 Main St. in West Chicago, IL 60185. Interment will be private.
