Obituary

Gentry H. Lowe Jr., age 92, a resident of Wheaton, Illinois, formerly of Williamsburg and Newport News, Virginia, died October 16, 2018, at Wynscape in Wheaton, Illinois. He was born March 14, 1926 in Birmingham, Alabama.

He grew up in Portsmouth, Virginia and attended schools there. He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School and entered the U.S. Navy in 1943. While serving, he was an Armed Guard on a merchant ship twice going to Russia. After serving for two and a half years he attended and then graduated from Duke University in 1950. Gentry entered the FBI in January of 1951 and retired in March of 1980.

Gentry was a lifetime tennis player and enjoyed the outdoors, hiking, canoeing and backpacking with his son. He also enjoyed traveling with his family to destinations around the world. He was active in his church as Elder, Deacon, and as a Stephen Minister. He was on the board of the James River Country Club and volunteered with the Boy Scouts of America.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Mary Ollie Vee Walpole Lowe of Wheaton and formerly of Virginia; his two children, Cynthia Anne Lowe Rynning (Lawrence) and Robert Walpole Lowe (Karen Lee); his five loving grandchildren, Jessica Leigh Rynning Entingh (Nathan Henry), Stephanie Anne Rynning, Elizabeth Lowe Rynning Androulidakis (Anastasious Adam), Emily Florence Lowe, and Harrison Gentry Walpole Lowe; three great-grandchildren, Dagny Amelia Entingh, Stelios Anastasious Androulidakis, and Aerys Olivee Androulidakis.

He was preceded in death by his parents Gentry and Sally Lowe; his two sisters Abigail Marie Haire, and Betty Ann Eaton.

A private memorial service will be held at Hultgren Funeral Home.
