Genevieve H. Frykman, age 103, a resident of Windsor Park in Carol Stream, IL, passed away on Monday, January 24, 2022.  She was born December 31, 1918 on her family's farm in Day County, South Dakota to Lewis & Hilma Larson.

Genevieve was a passionate educator. She started teaching at age 18 after graduating from Langford High School. She taught for four years in rural country schools before completing her BA Degree at Augustana College in Sioux Falls, SD. She continued her own education and obtained a Masters Degree from Northern Illinois University and her Gregg Diploma from Gregg College. Following her studies, she taught at Webster High School as well as the Nettleton Business College in Sioux Falls, SD. After her husband was transferred to the New York City US Office of Education, she taught at St. Matthew Lutheran School, Staten Island, NYC, NY (where her daughters attended school). Later, in the Chicago area, she taught at several schools including McCormac Business College in Chicago and College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn, Illinois.

She was a member of Delta Pi Epsilon, a national graduate honorary Society committed to the professional development of educators. She was also a library associate of Augustana University.

Although Genevieve moved across the country frequently, she remained very proud of her Norwegian South Dakota ancestry and traditions. Yes, even lutefisk and lefse. She loved music, traveling and family get-togethers. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Genevieve was the extremely proud grandmother of Matthew(Dawn) Gallucci and great-grandmother of Madison, Carter, and Hunter Gallucci. Their lives and energy were a constant source of joy and pleasure for her.

She is survived by her children, Glennys (Jim Stack, II) Aaland of Wheaton, IL, Gelaine (Sam) Gallucci of St. Charles, IL, David (Carole) Frykman of Sister Bay, WI, Karen (the late Dr. Robert) Frykman-Steig of San Rafael, CA, Faith Frykman of Sturgeon Bay, WI, Daniel Frykman of Salt Lake City, UT, & Dianne (the late Rick) Capps of Brevard, NC. Genevieve is also survived by her sister Myrene (the late Richard) Bunge who is 100 years old and her brother Luther (the late Vivian) Larson who is 97 years old and many wonderful nieces & nephews and friends & family.

She was preceded in death by her husbands Gordon A. Aaland & Bill C. Frykman and Bill's daughter Phyllis (Wayne) Dixon of Dayton, TN. She was also preceded in death by her brother Hans (the late Sophie) Larson and her sister Elaine Larson.

A visitation will be held Saturday, February 12, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. with a memorial service following at 4:00 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Wheaton, IL 60187.
