Garth Dalmain "Dal" Congdon, age 83, a resident of Windsor Park Manor in Carol Stream, died Monday April 6 at the Central Du Page Hospital. He was born on July 26, 1925 in Longview, WA to George B. and Marian T. Congdon.
Most of his childhood, through High School, was in Des Moines, Iowa. He then served in the Asiatic Pacific theatre during World War II.
After graduation from Bryan College and Grace Seminary, where he met his wife, Audrey, he pastored in Indiana at Zion Bethel Church and Pious Chapel. From 1960 to 1981 the Congdons were missionaries in southern Africa with The Evangelical Alliance Mission. Garth completed his doctoral studies and continued serving with the mission in Carol Stream, Illinois until 1995. His latest employment was with Tyndale House Publishers of Carol Stream.
He and his wife have attended Wheaton Evangelical Free Church where they have been members of the Kupples Klass since 1981.
Mr. Congdon is survived by his wife Audrey, a daughter, Deborah DiNicolantonio, of Aberdeen, MD, a son, David (Kim) Congdon of Lexington, Illinois, and two sisters, Edna Flacy of Florida and Elizabeth Schoonover of Texas.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 9, at 2:00 p.m. at the Wheaton Evangelical Free Church, 520 E. Roosevelt Rd., Wheaton, IL. Friends may visit with the family from 1:00 until the time of service at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be held on Friday at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Illinois.
