Obituary

Gardner E. "Bud" Hutchins, age 84, a longtime resident of Wheaton, died Thursday, June 26, at the Illinois Veterans' Home in Manteno. He was born May 11, 1924 in Fort Fairfield, ME.

A World War II Navy veteran, Bud served aboard the USS Boxer in the Western Pacific. He graduated from the Art Institute of Chicago in 1949 and started his own graphic design business, Design Promotion. He did freelance work for a number of companies including Tyndale House Publishers. He donated his time and artistic skills to help several ministries including Christian Service Brigade. Bud was a member of the Wheaton Bible Church.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years; Jane; his three children, Richard Hutchins of Naperville, Cynthia (William) Koechling of Wheaton, Carol (Daniel) Balow of Wheaton; 12 grandchildren, Nathan (Jennifer), Eric and Joel Hutchins, Ben (Mindy), Jesse, Sarah, Andy and Katie Koechling, David, Elizabeth, Tim and Mary Balow; two great-grandchildren, Elise and Evan Hutchins; his brother, Leonard (Phyllis) Hutchins of Chapman, ME; and his sister, Eleanor Barnes of Tacoma, WA.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 1, from 5-8 P.M. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., in Wheaton. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 2, at 11:00 A.M. at the chapel in Wheaton Bible Church, corner of Main and Franklin Streets. Interment will follow at Wheaton Cemetery.
