Obituary

Gail M. De Sutter passed away peacefully at home, on November 1, 2024, with her husband Sig by her side, after living with dementia for a number of years. Gail was born on June 13, 1939, in Chicago, to Earl Hazekamp and Dorothy Wendland. She was older sister to John. The family later moved to Lombard, IL. In high school, she was named a Lilac Princess, before graduating from Glenbard in 1957. She then went to Rosary College and received a B.A. in English. After graduation, Gail became an elementary school teacher.

She met John De Sutter at a college dance and they married in December of 1961. They had three children, Julie, Michael and Jennifer. After several years as a homemaker, Gail went back to school and received a Masters degree in Guidance Counseling from Governor's State University. She worked as a Guidance Counselor at Immaculate Conception High School from 1980-1985. She met her second husband,Sigmund Lisowski, while they were counselors at the high school.

Gail and Sig moved to Naperville and became counselors at Naperville Central High School. Gail specialized in working with Special Education students. Gail made a huge difference in their lives. One family said, "Imagine a counselor who shares her knowledge and believes in all your dreams…a counselor whose heart sees the 'you' that no one else knows." Gail continued to work as a counselor at Naperville Central until her retirement in 2001.

Gail had many passions - she was an avid reader, a dedicated gardener and an astoundingly good cook. Many people suggested to her that she should open a restaurant, but she preferred to lavish her love and energy on her friends and family, especially her six grandchildren. Gail is survived by her husband, Sigmund Lisowski, her brother, John Hazekamp (Ann Marie), her children, Julie Fry (Kevin), Michael De Sutter (Laurel), and Jennifer Causey (John). She is also survived by her grandchildren, Lauren Fry, Joseph Fry, Brandin Fry, Joshua De Sutter, Luke De Sutter and Grace De Sutter, and her nephew and niece, Earl (Hollie) and Marta Hazekamp.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Fisher Center for Alzheimer's Research Foundation or The Autism Science Foundation.
