Gabrielle Elizabeth "Gabe" White, (nee Martig), age 102, a resident of Windsor Park Manor in Carol Stream, Illinois died March 16, 2020. She was born April 15, 1917 the eldest of the six daughters of Karl & Camilla Martig in Peoria, Illinois. She was educated in the Peoria public schools. In 1939 she graduated from Ft. Wayne Bible College – now Taylor University/Ft. Wayne Campus. While a student there she was active in music ministry. She was in the Ladies Trio all three years and they often traveled with Dr. S. A. Witmer, the college president.

In 1942, she graduated from Methodist Hospital of Central Illinois School of Nursing. After graduation she married Howard W. White of Poughkeepsie, New York. She worked as an Industrial Nurse at the R.G. LeTourneau plants in Peoria and Vicksburg, Mississippi. After moving to Wheaton in 1946 she did some private duty nursing as well as geriatric nursing for 10 years. When her youngest child started junior high school, Gabe joined the staff of the Wheaton College Wyngarden Student Health Service.

As a teenager she committed her life to Jesus Christ and has always determined to honor Him. Always a people person she was active in her church, The Wheaton Bible Church. She, with her husband sang in the Sanctuary Choir for many years. She also was circle chairman, a deaconess, nursery worker and at retirement part of the Trimmers – a group of retired men and women who worked at the church keeping the grounds in park like conditions enjoying good fellowship followed by a Bible study.

In 1995, the Whites moved to Windsor Park Manor where they have been involved in the Music Ministry. But her main activity has been chairman of the Garden/Landscape Committee, spending many hours in the flower beds during the growing season.

She is survived by her children, Timothy (Anne) White of St. Charles, Dawn (Elvin "Pete") Herr of Wheaton, and G. Wesley White, M.D., of Wheaton; her grandsons Kyle (Sarah) Herr of Wheaton and Brendan Herr of Providence, Rhode Island; and her great-grandchildren: Elsa, Moriah, Ariana, Isaac and Josiah.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Howard (2010), her five sisters and her parents.
