Frederick William Wren III, age 83, a resident of DeKalb, IL and of Alamo, TX, and also of Rogers, AR, died Sunday, December 6, in Edinburg, TX. He was born November 18, 1926 in Chicago, IL.
Fred served in the Army Air Corps just after World War II. In 1951, after the war, he graduated with honors from Wheaton College in Wheaton, IL. Fred worked for the American Can Co. as a chemical research engineer. He was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in DeKalb, IL where he sang in the choir. He enjoyed singing and was always involved in the church choir wherever he attended. He also sang in a Barbershop Chorus in Alamo, TX. Earlier in his life he played a lot of golf, bridge, and cribbage. He especially liked solving the daily crossword puzzle. He loved to travel within the US and overseas.
He is survived by his wife, Evangeline "Dolly" Steinmeier Wren; three sons, Fredrick (Christine) Wren IV of Collinsville, IL, Richard (Debra) Wren of Warrenville, IL, Ken Wren of Zenda, WI; his daughter, Sandra (Rodney) Duesterhoft of Hutchinson, MN; ten grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; his sister, Carol Palmer of Henderson, NV; and his brother, Walter Wren of St. George, UT.
He is also survived by Kathleen (Craig) Davis and Karen (James) Crahan.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lois G. Wren, nee Houf; his mother, Helen Wren, nee Goodrich; his father, Frederick W. Wren II; and his brothers, Bob and Donald Wren.
A visitation will be held on Friday, December 11, 2009 from 4-7 P.M. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., in Wheaton. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 12, 2009 at 10:30 A.M. at St. John Lutheran Church, 125 E. Seminary Ave., in Wheaton. Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Gardens West in Oakbrook Terrace, IL.
