Freda L.
Davis
July 21, 1934 – November 12, 2023
Freda L. Davis, age 89, a resident of Windsor Park in Carol Stream, passed away on Sunday, November 12, 2023. She was born July 21, 1934 in Enfield, England to Frederick & Lillian Giles.
Freda grew up in Enfield, England, with her older brother, Alan, and younger brother, Dave, during World War II. Her childhood memories are filled with the terror of sirens wailing and running for shelter as bombs fell upon London. She remembers going to school and finding fellow classmates missing because their house had been hit the night before. Such horrors of war could make a person bitter or distrusting, but instead it made her resilient and profoundly grateful. After making it through the war, any further trials or difficulties seemed trivial in comparison. Any possible complaint felt petty. Often, when facing a difficult time, you would hear her say, "Well, at least I don't have bombs dropping on my head." This strength of character marked her entire life until her dying day as she lay in bed thankful that soon she would be with her beloved Jesus.
She came to the States in the early 1960's with a friend, and worked her way across the States, from New York to California, finding odd jobs here and there. In California, she met her husband Jim, and their lives would forever be entwined. Her friend returned to England, but Freda remained to build her family in the States with Jim. Never seeking to return to employment, she dedicated her life to her children and her husband, pouring her love and her counsel into her three boys. Her marriage to Jim was a testimony to the power of God to unite a couple and make their love thrive. They lived in loving harmony for 48 years before Jim's passing in 2015. The legacy she leaves behind with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren is one of persistent love, unwavering sincerity, and godly strength.
She is survived by her three sons: Mark (wife Sue), Giles (wife Debbie) and Tim; her seven grandchildren: Hannah (husband Drew), Sarah, Esther, Micah (wife Yedsim), Nate, Bekah (husband Esteban) and Jacob; her great-granddaughters Emma, Amber & Hannah; her brother Dave (wife Sheila); her sister-in-law Joy; and many precious nieces & nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim; her older brother Alan; and her parents.
