Fred J. Kolcz, age 69, a resident of Carol Stream and formerly of Wheaton, died Thursday, December 3 at home after a six month battle with cancer. He was born on August 27, 1940 to Frank and Martha Kolcz.
He grew up on the northwest side of Chicago and graduated from St. Patrick High School. He attended DePaul University and then joined the Army. While in the Army he studied data processing and then continued in that profession for his entire career. On May 11, 1963 he married Camille Wisniewski.
Fred was an avid reader, music enthusiast, collector, and naturalist; truly a renaissance man. In 2003 he realized his lifelong dreams of owning a home on a lake in the north woods of Wisconsin and developing a mail-order stamp business.
He is survived by his wife, Camille, one son, Matt (Jon Barin) Kolcz of Chicago, one sister, Bobbie (O.C.) Moore of GA, his godson, Jeremy (Jana) Moore, and numerous cousins including George Pollock of Wood Dale and Florian Wisniewski of McHenry.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 6 from 2 to 7 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Wheaton. A mass will be held on Monday, December 7 at 10 a.m. at St. John The Baptist Church, Winfield, IL. Prayers will begin at the funeral home at 9:15. Interment will be held at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL.
