Frank R. "Sam" Seager, age 86, a resident of Wyndemere Retirement Community in Wheaton and formerly of Baltimore, died at home on Monday, March 13. He was born in Baltimore, MD on July 15, 1919 to Frank and Marguerite Seager.
Sam is a retired salesman and inventor who began writing poetry in 1999. He lived through and participated in many historical events, including the signing of the WWII peace treaty with Japan. Some of Sam's more notable inventions include "zippered pants/walking shorts," "puffed pocket handkerchiefs" and the "measured liquid drink dispenser." He enjoyed reading, writing, listening to music and sipping Chardonnay.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Marie A. Seager (nee Tich), one son, Francis Ronald (Carol L.) Seager, three grandchildren, Laura E. (Denis) Rawe, Frank Randall (Jymette) Seager, Gabrielle Marie (Michael) Wallace, 7 great-grandchildren, Nathan, Melissa, Matthew Rawe, Ryan, Colton, Ty Seager, Samuel Ethan Wallace, brother-in-law, Joseph S. Tich, and niece and nephews, Sally & Greg Tich, loving cousin of Barbara & Frank Randall, Clara Bartholomee, Yvonne Lauryssens, Donald & Mary Seager, Sister Helen Donald Seager, Helen Durham, Mary & Fred Seager, Charlene & Buddy Koltra, Susie, Reds & Arthur Gayhardt.
A visitation will be held on Friday, March 17, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Wheaton. A funeral Mass will be held Saturday, March 18, at 10 a.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 1500 Brookdale Rd., Naperville, IL. Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery in Winfield.
