Obituary

Frank J. Cernik, Sr., age 95, a resident of Naperville, IL, and formerly of Berwyn, IL for 66 years, and also formerly of West Chicago for 13 years, died Wednesday, March 18, 2009, at Tabor Hills Health Care Center in Naperville. He was born Tuesday, December 9, 1913 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Edward and Anna (nee Tepley) Cernik.

Frank married Mary Novacek on April 11, 1942 at St. Mary of Celle Catholic Church in Berwyn, a church he was a member of for more than 65 years. He proudly served there as an usher and a member of the Holy Name Society. He was a Charter Member of the Monsignor John Farrell Council #4200 of the Knights of Columbus in Berwyn and was a proud member of their Fourth Degree. He worked as a pressman for W.F. Hall Printing Company in Chicago for more than 40 years before he retired in 1978.

He is survived by his children, Frank Jr. and Joseph (Janice) of Wheaton, IL, Diane Wettstaedt of Platteville, WI, and Kathleen (John) Novotny of Winfield, IL; his seven grandchildren, Steven (Mary) Novotny, Eric (Amy) Novotny, Kim (Aaron) Rome, Karin (Richard) Davey, Lisa Wettstaedt, and Caitlin and Kyle Cernik; ten great-grandchildren, Courtney, Janelle, Ellie, Luke, Savannah and Rhett Novotny, Abby and Max Rome, and Jack and Maggie Davey; his brother-in-law, George Stahnke, and his loving nieces, Bonnie (John) Collier, Amy (David) Barber and Dixie (John) Flamm.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 52 years, Mary; his sister, Ethel Stahnke; his two brothers, Arthur and Robert Cernik; and his niece, Cindy.

A visitation will be held Friday, March 20, 2009 from 4-8 P.M. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., in Wheaton. A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2009 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Michael Catholic Church, 310 S. Wheaton Ave., in Wheaton. Prayers will be said at the funeral home prior to the Mass at 9:30 A.M. Interment will follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside, Illinois.
